The squat is so important to learn how to do correctly as it is something we do throughout our day, everyday. When we pick something up, unload the dishwasher, brush our teeth, it is important to hinge from the hips not the low back. Our abdominals need to be firing and connecting with the breath to avoid pain and strain. We learn it on the reformer when we first start with footwork and without equipment it's imperative to keep practicing.
I recommend mastering the calf stretch and the rock backs first before doing a full squat.
*Tip- Having trouble with the form? Holding on to a doorknob (closed door of course) or countertop to feel the hips lengthening back and the abs doing the work can be very beneficial. Especially if you are in 3rd trimester and early Postpartum, I highly recommend holding on to something.
